Industry: Ecommerce Shoe Brand

Role: Product Design | UXUI

Year: 2023-2024

The Challenge

Across most urban and suburban areas, many people are looking for someone to walk or babysit their dogs when they're not home. However, there's a lack of confidence when giving the dog to a stranger.

There are other factors to consider, including dog walker cost, reliability, and safety/security issues.

Product Design

πŸ’» I was involved in the entire design process of the product, taking direction on the business goals and objectives from product management. Including brainstorming, research, UX, UI, prototyping and testing.

πŸ“ Main Tasks

1. Research
2. User Flow
3. Wireframes
4. Visual Design
5. Scaling Design
8. Prototyping & Testing

User Research

πŸ§‘β€πŸ”¬ I conducted a series of guided interviews with the primary goal of detecting people's preferences, thoughts, feelings and pain points.
πŸ™ Understand a user's needs
πŸ† Understand a user's goals
😫 Understand a user's pain points
πŸ” This was an excellent opportunity to meet potential users and know their demands before designing for them.

Market Research

🎯 I researched key competitors to gain insight into their products, interfaces, and marketing tactics.

Based on the findings, here are the features to be included in our product.

βœ”οΈ Dog Boarding
βœ”οΈ House Sitting
βœ”οΈ Dog Walking
βœ”οΈ Doggy Day Care
βœ”οΈ Drop-In Visits
βœ”οΈ Vetted Pet Coverages
βœ”οΈ Insurence
βœ”οΈ Dog’s health and activity tracker
βœ”οΈ Scheduling
βœ”οΈ Easy invoicing
βœ”οΈ Earning rewards
βœ”οΈ Dog Food
βœ”οΈ Treats and Toys
βœ”οΈ Scheduling

User Persona

Santiago is an archetypical user whose goals and characteristics represent the needs of a larger group of users.

He is a 31-year-old Project Manager for an SME company. He works just a couple of blocks from his home and spends a lot of time walking Ramon, his dog, every morning, during mid-day and late afternoons. He has a pretty active social life and is super sporty.

Goals and Ambitions

βœ… Find someone he can trust.
βœ… He wants to feel like the dog walker takes care of the dog just as he does.

Frustrations

❌ He hates when dog walkers are not empathetic with the dog.
❌ Hard to find trustworthy people.
❌ Asking his friends for favours.
❌ Seeing big groups of dogs walking tight.

User Flow

πŸ‘£ Our user flow was designed to be pretty much straight forwarded. Focused on the search as the entry point, the user details the service they're after, their location, the dates and the dog details so that Rai Dog matches him/her with the best options in the neighbourhood.

Wireframes

Our goal is to show the best options in the hood! So, we prioritized featuring the dog walker's characteristics so that the dog owner quickly understands which profile matches their needs.

Scaling Design

We created a Pattern Library or Design System to start speeding up production. We built responsive user interface cards, that are reusable and scalable.

Prototypes

In this experimental process, we created a testable prototype so that we can get actual user feedback.

πŸ€– With this prototype, we got as close to the real thing as possible.

Testing

πŸ‘€ We focused on speeding up the process of hiring a dog walker.

Things we learnt during the tests:

πŸ“ If participants were able to complete specified tasks successfully
πŸ“ Identified how long it takes to complete specified tasks
πŸ“ Found out how satisfied participants are with our product
πŸ“ Identified the changes required to improve user performance and satisfaction
πŸ“ Analyzed the performance to see if it meets your usability objectives
πŸ“ Checked if the product meets the user’s expectations
πŸ“ Saw if the product matches business decisions to real-world use
πŸ“ Gathered user reactions and feedback about the product

You can test the prototype here
